In 1998 Austria, Germany and Switzerland have introduced a new
and reformed orthography. This reform aimed to simplify German spelling
and German language in general. Till then more than 200 rules have
regulated German spelling, those have been reduced to 112. German
punctuation has been regulated by 57 rules, which have been simplified
and reduced to 9 rules. Learning German has become a lot easier
by this.
